Michigan Events – March

Rolling into our 181st year of statehood, we Michiganders have found innumerous ways to celebrate and utilize our geography and resources to their fullest.  From Ironwood to Monroe, enjoy our monthly compilation of weekend events happening all over this great state!


March is maple syrup month in Michigan!  Celebrating this sweet treat are several festivals in Michigan where guests can consume maple products of all kinds, learn how syrup is made and how to tap a tree, and other fun and informational activities.  On March 17th alone, there will be maple syrup festivals in Lansing (Fenner Nature Center), Hanover (Heritage Park Event Center), Midland (Chippewa Nature Center), and more.


Charlevoix – Dogman Challenge – March 10

Held in the Mt. McSauba Recreation area and Northpoint Nature Preserve, this two hour, 2-mile fat bike race offers cash and prizes to the participant that is able to best endure unpredictable Michigan weather and make the most laps around the course.

Sault St. Marie – Soo Locks Opening Day – March­ 25

Join fellow enthusiasts in welcoming the opening of the Soo Locks.


Grand Rapids – Beer Month GR – March 1 through 15

Jackson – Southern Michigan Winter Beer Festival – March 10

Offering craft beer and ciders, food vendors, and live music, this annual event is entering its 8th year as a southern Michigan tradition.

Detroit – Detroit Tigers Opening Day – March 29

On the earliest Opening Day in league history, the Tigers will take on the Pittsburgh Pirates.
